Image of the Week: Understand the Meaning of Memorial Day Through Mixed Media

In honor of yesterday being Memorial Day in the US, we are sharing an image which is designed to teach students about Memorial Day. Embedding an image with various media is an engaging way for students to explore a holiday they may be unfamiliar with. Our image of the week comes to us from Susan Gaer.

One of the advanced ThingLink features is the ability to upload audio to any tag. This is seen when exploring tag #1, an image of the calendar and text appear with recorded audio automatically playing when the mouse hovers over it.

Learning Standards to Support Understanding the Meaning of Memorial Day

  • ISTE Standards for Teachers 3C (Model digital age work and learning)
    • Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats.
  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.4.5 (Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas) [Extension idea]
    • Add audio recordings and visual displays to presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes.

Susan is offering an opportunity for educators to learn along side of her, in the Los Angeles, California area. She will be hosting a Virtual Reality in the Classroom Bootcamp on June 19th at Mount San Antonio College. Reserve your spot today!
